Personal Protection Equipment Control Case Study:
Artificial Joint Manufacturer
After conducting studies of their operations, a leading producer of
artificial joints implemented SupplyPoint for control of PPE equipment
throughout their production plant. Prior to the SupplyPoint
installation, PPE was controlled through a mixture of open bins,
supervisor control, stores and scheduled issues. Despite repeated
wastage reduction initiatives, production operators at the plant were
consuming reusable 'rigger' gloves at an average of 3.8 pairs of gloves
per person per day - contributing to a total PPE spend of £128,000 per
annum.
Through user accountability alone, the initial SupplyPoint
implementation provided immediate and substantial savings; operators at
the plant now 'owned' PPE issued to them, and as such ensured the
equipment was used for its entire life. SupplyPoint's secure storage
eliminated pilferage of PPE equipment and ensured an auditable,
guaranteed availability of PPE supply aiding compliance with health and
safety regulations.
The result: PPE Expenditure reduced by 77.9% from £128,000 to £28,300
in less than 12 months with system payback achieved in less than 3
months.
Since the initial SupplyPoint installation, further savings have been
achieved through the introduction of additional rationing and
restriction rules, which, for example, have reduced the usage of
women's marigold gloves - a favourite for use when washing-up at home;
consumption of this particular item been reduced by a further 54%.
